| | | | Takeda Pharmaceuticals recently announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will continue its recall of NATPARA® for the treatment of hypoparathyroidism indefinitely in the United States. The reason for the recall is the observation of some tiny but visible rubber particles in the NATPARA® solution. These particles originate from the rubber septum of the cartridge, which is punctured by the replaceable cartridge needle each time an injection is made. When the septum is repeatedly pierced, small pieces of rubber may detach into the solution. The recall has created a major disruption in the care of patients in the U.S. In September 2019, the ASBMR and the Endocrine Society issued joint guidance on transitioning hypoparathyroidism patients from NATPARA®. |

| The musculoskeletal field (as other medical fields) is experiencing an unprecedented buoyant period of genetic discoveries arising from Genome-Wide Association and Sequencing (whole exome and whole-genome) Studies. JBMR® welcomes new papers on the biological validation of genes and/or variants identified through GWAS or Sequencing Studies that can help elucidate disease risk in the bone and mineral field. Please submit your original research or short reviews by June 1st, 2020. Short reviews on the following topics are encouraged: • Variant and gene prioritization • Functional assessment of regulatory regions • Chromatin conformation analyses • New methods and techniques Please visit the ASBMR page at Wiley for more information. |
